Bio and Contact

Katie O'Keefe, a native of Columbus, Ohio, is a mother, grandmother, liturgical musician and blogger, and a great fan of nifty new tools and dusty old books.

Music is her first love. Having performed in front of audiences since childhood, Katie is exceptionally gifted at lyrical interpretation.  In her career as a performer, she has worked with The Chieftains, and Moya Brennan, both as a soloist and choir director, and has toured Germany, performing on television for the 800th Anniversary of the the City of Dresden. Katie still performs in both sacred and secular venues all around Ohio, but liturgical music is where she finds her real grounding.

After working for 25 years in church music, Katie decided to pursue a call to use her writing skills to help foster a greater love and understanding of how the arts can be used in teaching theology and deepening spirituality.

Currently pursuing a degree in Philosophy from Ohio Dominican University, she keeps two blogs of her own, The Backs of People’s Heads and Baby Faces and The Beautiful Music Challenge. In addition, she is a regular contributor at CatholicMom.com, and works as a freelance editor and beta tester for iOS apps.

Katie is a member of the Catholic Writer's Guild, The American Guild of Organists and sits on the Liturgy Commission for the Diocese of Columbus.

When she's not sifting through piles of used books and music, or working on the next big thing, you can find her hanging out with her husband, or singing German folk songs to her grandson (who always has a smile for Oma).
